Maverick Kawamoto

Site Manager - S. Kona

Born and raised in North Kohala on the Big Island of Hawai‘i; Maverick graduated from Kohala High School; and attended the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in General Agriculture and a Professional Diploma in Education. He also received a degree in Meat Cutting from the National Meat Cutting School in Toledo, Ohio.

As a recent retired Teacher from Konawaena High School, he served 32-years teaching agriculture; 12 years as Department Head; 12 years as CTE Coordinator (Career Technical Education); and also Lead Chairperson for numerous school activities within all grade levels. Maverick also serves as Curator for the Konawaena High School Museum which reflects the history of Konawaena, its Community, and its Alumni.

He is active in his church Ekalesia, The Foundation of Jesus Christ serving as a Deacon for the past 10 years.

Maverick joined Ka Hana No‘eau as a part-time Mentor based out of Konawaena High School; his program – To Grow, To Harvest, To Cook – allowed his students to learn basic survival in the kitchen utilizing what’s “in your backyard.”

Maverick’s desire is to continue teaching and helping students to realize their potential, and to set an achievable path to reach and exceed their goals.
