New Episode in 'Wahi Pana' Series Airs on KGMB Get to Know Kaua's Hanapēpē

(Hanapēpē, Kauai) October 30, 2017 – Kauai's Hanapēpē is a place of history, community and song. It's a place where tradition is valued and ancient ways are still worth their weight. “Wahi Pana: Hawai‘i’s Special Places” takes viewers beyond the name to get to know Hanapēpē, airing Monday, October 30, at 6:30 p.m. on KGMB.

Local nonprofit Partners in Development Foundation (PIDF) commissioned the “Wahi Pana” films as part of their Tūtū and Me Traveling Preschool program, an innovative preschool model serving over 28 communities statewide. PIDF partnered with Hawaii News Now to showcase the films to a broader audience.

“The sense of place is an important Hawaiian tradition that has powerful applications in the lives of our children, families and leaders,” said Jan E. Hanohano Dill, PIDF President. “Mahalo to Melissa Mainz for producing this video and continuing the work of her late father, award-winning director, editor and videographer Don Mapes, and Hawaii News Now for airing this very special program.”

“We are very proud and excited to partner with PIDF in sharing this incredible collection of beautiful programs showcasing the rich history and beauty of our islands in a way that most of us have never seen before,” said Rick Blangiardi, General Manager of Hawaii News Now.
