Tech Together - (Wed) October 20, 2010
‘Ike Ea Program continued its primary goals of inspiring students in the field of Engineering and Technology in two schools in the month of September 2010. Our two-week program started on September 2nd to September 17 at Blanch Pope Elementary in Waimanalo on the Windward side of the island and on September 20th to October 01st, at Pauoa Elementary School in the Valley of Pauoa. Daily basic overview on engineering and technology and also include hands-on activities such as, popsicle stick bridge building (30 sticks and 50sticks) with a 50 lbs. load test, egg drop, circuits and model house wiring, helped reinforce the concepts learned during the lecture part of the course. A total of two classes at Pauoa Elementary with 54 students participated in the program and total of 37 students at Blanch Pope Elementary. The program culminated with a Family Night at the end of each two-week session to showcase student projects along with a short slideshow for parents to witness job well done by the students during the course of the program. Students were also recognized with their effort with a certificate of completion and goody bags. The ‘Ike Ea Program will be traveling to Hilo in October to teach at Ha’aheo Elementary and end at Barbers Point Elementary School as the last school for this school year before the winter break.
