James V. Gomez, CPA


For the past 28 years, James Gomez has owned and operated his own CPA firm. In total, he has served approximately 350 clients, with emphasis on non-profit organizations. Roughly 35% of the business was conducting audits, the balance being income tax and accounting services for individuals and for profit businesses. Originally the firm was known as James Gomez, CPA. Ten years ago, it changed to Gomez & Nishimura, CPAs. Since recently selling his firm to another CPA outfit, he will be going back to a solo practice as James Gomez, CPA.

Prior employment since graduating from college, was first as an auditor with Castle & Cooke, then as a CPA for Ernst & Young, and lastly as the Assistant Controller with Heftel Broadcasting. He then started his own CPA firm as mentioned above.

Mr. Gomez and his wife have owned and operated Marujyu Market in Aiea for the past 12 years selling food and catering Hawaiian luau. Mr. Gomez also owned P&P Superfoods in Kalihi for 12 years and sold the business in 2004. For the past 12 years, he has served as President and Chairman of the Board for the Independent Grocers of Hawaii, a co-op of independent supermarkets.

Mr. Gomez has also been active as a youth soccer coach for both AYSO and HYSA for over eleven years and holds a “D” coaching license.

Mr. Gomez just completed his six year term serving on the Native Hawaiian Revolving Loan Fund Board. During that time, he served as Vice Chair for a year and then as Chair of the Board for a year.
